About

It was mid-2001, before the world had changed. Two co-workers gave a left-field phone call to a guitar player orphaned from his last project. The trio landed in a dank, malformed, windowless rehearsal space playing mostly on other people's instruments. A mix of punk, jangle, faux jazz, rock, dub bass, and space jams culminated into a 15-song setlist within months. Three members sharing all duties of vocals, muckraking, songwriting — no jerks, no wimps. An art band with distortion pedals and an angry underpinning. Probably in the wrong city at the wrong time.

As life goes, things change. Members moved to far-off cities and each plugged away at their own projects. Vevlo Eel has continued as a basement, DIY project enlisting various friends, former bandmates, and rusty tin cans. There Is No Pencil holds the distinction of being CBR release #001. The ethos was always to create, destroy, inspire — to write a poem, write a song, start your own damn band.
