A recording project well into its second decade of existence, Hallelujah Boy emerged from a 7-year self-imposed hiatus after the last touring version of the project imploded in 2006. In 2007, project leader J.B. Whittenburg relocated to Los Angeles, where the record equipment sat idly on the shelf while grad school and the birth of two babies took precedence. Since 2013, recording and performing has begun anew, in fits and starts, with various singles and contributions to compilations released along the way.
The Hallelujah Boy ethos has always been informed by Chris Knox, Robert Pollard, and other home recorders who worked fast and delivered vast catalogues of material. The early drive to crank out 100 songs in a year (a feat HB attempted in 2005, coming up only 36 songs short) has since been replaced with a more measured approach — time taken to edit things down rather than churn out another 15-song album before anyone's had the chance to absorb the last one.
